The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades is sourcing for an intermediate Research Coordinator.A successful candidate will handle IUPAT’s strategic research That advances the goals of the IUPAT Organizing Department along with other organizational priorities as determined.  The Research Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the research and analysis that pertains to the design and implementation of organizing campaigns. This position involves specific projects and roles that require close collaboration with IUPAT affiliates and staff to develop or augment affiliates’ work in parallel areas. The IUPAT Campaign Researcher will be collaborating with IUPAT Organizing and Government Affairs Staff as well as other departmental staff to facilitate the IUPAT’s mission to create, develop, and execute a labor movement that is inclusive, relevant and an effective representative body of all workers in the Finishing Trades Industry. 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Oversee the work of the Research Technician, providing training and oversight of assignments
  • Produce strategic research to support organizing, including but not limited to comprehensive company profiles, market analyses, targeted owner profiles and procurement policies and practices
  • Support the development of strategic campaigns by deploying research to choose targeted markets, contractors, and owners
  • Develop corporate campaign approaches, including capital strategies, along with the research to support those strategies
  • Partner with academics and thinktank researchers to produce research to advance policies that support organizing
  • Develop and execute trainings for organizers and other IUPAT International and District Council staff to expand research and strategic campaigning capacity
  • Manage subscriptions required to perform research
  • Performing all other job-related duties as required.

Required Experience

  • At least two (2) years of experience producing research to support campaigns (Note: some of the members of the research cohort could be qualified to fill this role even without a college degree, given their research experience and understanding of strategic campaigns/IUPAT sectors)
  • At least two (2) years of experience working for a building trades union with an understanding of campaigning in the construction sector.  
  • Strong writing and communication skills

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic campaign approaches in the construction industry and produce relevant research to support those campaigns.
  • Experience producing comprehensive company profiles for private and public companies, including financial, legal and individual research.  Skills with Nexis, PACER and other subscription and free databases
  • Experience producing research that supports policy campaigns
  • Experience supervising, training and mentoring staff on research and campaigning duties
  • Experience summarizing research findings through well-cited reports, memos and other communications.

Details

Working environment will be majority office work with occasional fieldwork as required. The individual selected will be expected to travel as a component of this position.
